British furniture brand Very Good & Proper (VG&P) has unveiled its latest collection of furniture, with products designed by the in-house team alongside collaborations with designers, John Tree and Klemens Schillinger. The new collection has been devised with a focus on the now prevailing need to work more often from home.
As people adapted to working from home, existing domestic furniture settings were subject to daily transformation, from a temporary office during the day to a resting environment in the evening. With this in mind, VG&P explored the idea of furniture for the home that welcomes both work and rest, with designs that can adapt easily between the two. This has resulted in tables with hidden cable-management, work chairs made from materials that blend into a home setting and discreet desking that can be readily cleared away at the end of each day.
A new addition to the VG&P Metal Dowel range, the Live/Work Table has been considered for dual use: work and mealtimes. The oak top extends over the base by a small amount, softening the profile to ease cleaning, with a lip to rest your hand under and to catch crumbs.
Like the rest of the MD family, the table features cable-management at its centre, allowing wires to be quickly put out of view, and then easily accessed when needed. From the central cache, cables can be hidden within one of the legs, to be within safe reach of the nearest floor or wall socket.
Designed as a space saving solution, the new wall-mounted Pasadena Desk is small yet perfectly formed and features a full-width drawer. It has a visually minimal yet strong fixing-bracket that attaches the table directly to the wall. The unit can also be added to the single-bay Croquet Shelving, or two or more can be part of a wider Croquet Shelving system.
When alone, the Pasadena Desk appears to float from the wall, as a durable yet elegant working space. At the end of the day, the drawer can be used to put away a laptop, iPad or keyboard. The oak finish makes it a smart partner to the HD Chair.
The monitor stand design combines powder-coated steel and wood – a combination found within many VG&P products – and sits perfectly alongside the VG&P desk accessories. The design centres on function, aiding users sitting or standing whilst working and can be raised with ease to achieve the correct height for a monitor or laptop. Both ergonomic and sculptural, it brings a distinctive character to any desk or workstation
The beautifully crafted and durable desk accessories – available as a full set or as individual products – are stackable and interchangeable. The mix of wood and metal give both a warmth and a robust, long lasting addition to a desk, no matter the size.
In addition, VG&P has launched two new benches, Strata and Radius. Strata is designed by long-term collaborator John Tree and is available in two sizes. Strata is an ode to a material prototype in Tree’s living room, the proportions of a thin surface with wide supports celebrate the practicality of sheet plywood. Minimal in its geometric form, the joints are expertly crafted, and highlight the honest construction methods behind the design.
The design of the Radius Bench, a new collaboration with Austrian designer Klemens Schillinger, references traditional Japanese as well as alpine furniture and its small proportions and soft rounded edges make it the perfect occasional seat for every home. Radius ships flatpack and is easily assembled.
VG&P recently launched its new e-shop, to coincide with the relaunch of Ed Carpenter’s Pigeon Light. The new products will be available through the new e-shop, alongside the new Wine Rack designed by Mowat and Company and iconic pieces such as the Canteen Collection.
